Making the most of March Break
With spring right around the corner, it means March break is here! The dates vary a little for each province.
New Brunswick | March 3 – 7 |
Quebec | March 3 – 7 |
Ontario | March 10 – 14 |
Nova Scotia | March 10 – 14 |
British Columbia | March 17 – 28 |
Alberta | March 24 – 28 |
Prince Edward Island | March 17 – 21 |
Manitoba | March 31 – April 4 |
Saskatchewan | March 31 – April 4 |
Newfoundland and Labrador | April 21 – 25 |
If you’re sticking close to home, your township website may have some activities that are happening for kids. Theatres might have matinee showings of family movies. Gymnastic clubs, dance schools and sporting venues often host camps for the week. And local libraries usually have activities (often free!) for the kids set up as well.
But if you’re looking to make the most of what Canada has to offer as a family, here are some great options specifically meant for the kids on their school break.
Dates for events will correspond to the March break dates of the city’s province.

The Toronto Zoo is hosting the Ultimate Science Extravaganza. With hands on science tables, and entertainment including contortionists, plate spinners and a mime, there’s lots to see and do!
The Sound Off Deaf Theater Festival in Edmonton can give your family a unique performance experience.
Montreal has the International Children’s Film Festival, featuring films made by youth, most of them Canadian.
FlyOver theatre in Vancouver is an amazing, immersive movie experience, where you feel like you’re in a helicopter over various cities and landscapes.
You can learn more about polar bears and the arctic at the Assiniboine Zoo in Winnipeg.
In Saskatoon, Cat Kid Comic Club: The Musical will be playing at the Broadway Theatre March 31 to April 1st, if you want some laughs at live theatre with the kids.
Go for a free horse and wagon ride on March 15 or 22nd on Prince Street in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
In Caraquet, New Brunswick there is Congé de Mars, with lots of activities going on.
Have fun at the farm with wagon rides, ziplines and more at Shelby Ranch or Hatfield Farm in Nova Scotia.
There’s also lots of sugarbushes and Maple Syrup festivals around the country that you can check out, with spring just around the corner.
