Discover Canada’s Top Spring Festivals for your Family

Yes, most of us are still in the in-between zone (other than you Vancouver Island. No snow, but not green yet. But spring is here, Canada! The birds singing, geese calling, maple sap dripping, and warm(ish) breezes—the signs are all there.

The next few weeks are going to offer the perfect opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and make unforgettable memories, especially after so much time cooped up indoors. Here are some of Canada’a top festivals your family can enjoy together this spring:

🌸 Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival (Vancouver, BC) – Cherry blossoms so dreamy, you’ll wonder if you’ve wandered into a fairy tale. Bring the family for outdoor concerts, picnic vibes, and creative workshops where even your toddler’s “abstract art”

🍁 Sugaring-Off Festivals (QC, NB, ON) – Where maple syrup flows like liquid gold! Taste your weight in syrupy delights, hop on a wagon ride, and dance to live music—because who needs a break when you’ve got maple sugar energy?

🌷 Canadian Tulip Festival (Ottawa, ON) – Did you know a Dutch Princess was born in Ottawa?! Seriously. Enjoy kids’ activities, lively entertainment, fireworks that’ll make your jaw drop faster than your kid’s ice cream cone on a hot day, and of course thousands of tulips at this festival that commemorates Canada’s part in Dutch liberation.

More Tulip Festivals: Lakeland, BC and Harrison, BC

🦢Festival of Birds (Point Pelee, ON) – Calling all birdwatchers and future ornithologists! Spot migrating birds, try hands-on activities, and maybe even master the art of bird calls. (Don’t worry, your kids squawking just adds to the charm.)

🐄 Few things say that spring is here in Alberta as well as a good ol’ rodeo, and there are a few coming up in April and May. In Leduc, Grand Prairie, and Taber.

🎭 Charlottetown Festival (Charlottetown, PEI) – Live theatre so good, it’ll leave you and your kids humming show tunes for weeks. From captivating performances to kid-friendly shows, it’s like Broadway dropped by PEI for a visit!

Tiny Quick Tips

  • ✨ Bring a lightweight blanket or camp chairs for seating at outdoor events.

  • 🎟️ Buy tickets online in advance to skip the lines.

  • 🥤 Pack reusable water bottles to stay hydrated.

  • 🥨 Bring snacks. It’s nice to get festival food, but bring some stuff along so that treats don’t break the bank.

  • 🎧 Bring noise-canceling headphones for little ones sensitive to loud sounds.

  • 📷 Let kids take their own photos—it keeps them engaged and makes great memories!

Kids’ Favs

“I loved visiting the maple farm! They showed us the buckets and spiles that collect the maple water, and the big stove that boils it into syrup. I love the pancakes, but my favourite was the taffy! Yum!” – Nikky, age 9

Joke of the day: How do trees feel in the spring?

So tell us…

Last we asked readers “What’s your family’s funniest travel mishap?” Here are our favourite responses:

  • “The teen lost their phone on a hike. Luckily (after a dramatic night) we found it the next morning.”

  • “The pool had to get closed for the rest of the afternoon, and some of the next morning after our kid puked… Nachos are not a good choice for kids right before swimming!”

  • “I got pulled out of the security line at the airport when the dog that sniffs for explosives picked me out. Turns out it was the spray paint stuck under my mails from a craft project the day before.”

The question for next week: What is your favourite Canadian festival?

Joke answer: Re-leaved.
